The spelling and Reading through Phonics for Tutors course will allow you to be able to tutor at home or in the classroom or support work environment, children who need extra focus on their reading, pronunciation and spelling.

  2. Role of the brain in learning
  3. Using multi-sensory learning
  4. Using skills, including handwriting, listening and pronunciation
  5. Information about English phonics – the sounds, letters, rules – for better spelling and reading
  6. How to diagnose spelling and reading problems, and individualise your tutoring
  7. How to help people diagnosed as dyslexic, special learning difficulties and other conditions that may be limiting their literacy abilities.
  8. Recognizing the three main sources of English and how these provide the key to mastering English spelling.
  9. How to read accurately, fluently and expressively, using decoding first
Aims - the learning objectives of the course: 
  • Explain how the brain works in the learning process
  • Understand and define what multi-sensory learning is and how it can be used in the tutoring process
  • Understand phonics and how to use them
  • Provides alternative learning aides to people diagnosed with learning difficulties so they can practice their reading and spelling more effectively
  • Define what the 3 main sources of English are, and how you can use these to tutor more effectively
  • Learn how to decode before reading
