Our international floristry correspondence course offers you a proven method of home study to learn all aspects of floral design and floristry.

No previous knowledge of flower arranging is needed, as we start you right at the beginning. Flower arranging is easy once you have learned the basic rules. We have students from all around the world and all walks of life - age and standard of education are not important. Every florist was once a beginner.

Fabulous Floral Designs

You will learn to create many different styles of floral arrangements suitable for all types of special occasions and events. These include table centrepieces, basket arrangements, posies, modern floral designs, traditional flower arrangements, European designs, hand tied bouquets, tributes, corsages, bridal bouquets and wedding designs.

Each floristry lesson is set out in simple, every day language with easy to follow step - by - step illustrated instructions.

How to care for flowers for the longest possible life.   The history of flower arranging.  Tools and florist accessories.   Various styles of flower arrangements.   Basic rules of flowers arranging.  Wiring and taping.  How to make bows and streamers.  Flowers and foliage A-Z.  Professional floristry tips and techniques.  Buying flowers from the market, growers and wholesalers.  How to cost your floral designs.  How to photograph your floral designs and create your own presentation folder.  The business side of floristry.  How to open you own florist shop or work from home.   The advantages and disadvantages of starting or buying a florist business.   Overheads, turnover and profits. Lots of ideas of how to promote a florist business.

All Materials Supplied

We provide all materials for each term such as bowls, baskets, gift box, corsage and presentation box, floral foam, bases, ribbons, cellophane, bouquet holders, cards, wire and floral tape. Ample materials are provided to complete each lesson successfully. Fresh flowers are not included with the materials as you would appreciate, these would not last. You do not have to use expensive flowers for your lessons. If desired silk flowers can be used for each lesson and will enable you to have a permanent sample of each design.

Completion Time

The student has up to 18 months to complete the full course of three terms. However, if unforeseen circumstances occur you may apply for an extension of time to complete the course.

Assignments

To receive your Floristry Diploma at the end of the Third Term you will be asked to submit photographs of your practical lessons along with your completed examination paper. A pass mark is 70 or more out of 100.

 

In the first and second terms we will send you a questionnaire sheet with multiple-choice answers. These questions are taken from your floristry manuals. You can also e-mail or post photos of your lessons throughout the course and your tutor will comment on your progress and offer helpful advice if needed.

First Term:

  1. Corsages.
    • You will learn to make corsages. Correct wiring and taping methods. Where to position flowers and leaves. How to glamorise your designs with ribbon. How to present your corsages attractively in an acetate box and a cellophane bag.
  2. Flower Basket.
    • We show you how to create a flower basket with a bow and streamers.
  3. Victorian Posy.
    • You will be able to make a delightful posy of flowers surrounded with leaves.
  4. European Arrangement.
    • This is the latest trend in flower arranging.
  5. Triangular Arrangement.
    • How to create a traditional triangular flower arrangement and wrap it in cellophane.
  6. Wreath.
    • You will learn how to make a wreath. Foliage is placed around the edges to give the correct shape. Where to place feature, secondary and filler flowers.
  7. Presentation Sheaf.
    • Arrange a sheaf of flowers. How to position flowers and foliage and secure the stems together with ribbon.
  8. Modern Upright Arrangement.
    • This simple but effective design has five feature flowers, foliage loops and spear grass.
  9. Horizontal Centrepiece.
    • Learn how to arrange a centrepiece of flowers suitable for a table arrangement.
  10. Round Bridal Bouquet.
    • We show you how to create a beautiful traditional bridal bouquet with a ribbon bound handle.

Second Term:

  1. Gift Box of Flowers.
    • A posy arrangement of flowers, surrounded with gathered tissue in a gift box.
  2. Fruit and Flower Basket.
    • A basket of flowers and fruit is always a much appreciated gift.
  3. Bridal Trailer.
    • Learn to create a beautiful traditional bridal trailer.
  4. Topiary Tree.
    • How to make a delightful topiary tree.
  5. Funeral Cross.
    • We teach you how to edge a cross with ribbon, place leaves around the edges, cover with base flowers and position focal spray of flowers.
  6. Flowers in a Vase.
    • This is a contemporary style arrangement in a vase.
  7. Roses With a Soft Toy for a New Baby.
    • This gift box of roses with a teddy bear is a suitable gift for a new baby.
  8. Presentation Box.
    • You will be delighted with this upright floral design in a clear acetate box.
  9. Modern Line Arrangement.
    • How to create an elegant modern line arrangement.
  10. Casket Sheaf.
