The following topics will be covered in this course.
Introduction to Communication Skills: Being able to communicate with management, staff and customers has become a vital component of everyday business. This introduction to communication skills has been designed to aid in the development of an individual’s ability to communicate successfully at all levels.
Introduction to Instructional Technique: This module is designed to aid in the development of an individual’s instructional skills and methods of presentation. Completion of this course will give the candidate the necessary skills and knowledge to instruct on their subject matter. Also, completion of Instructional Techniques will enable the candidate to deliver presentations to both colleagues and management. This module is aimed at professionals developing their presentation skills and the ones wishing to expand their career as an instructor.
Introduction to Supervisory Skills: The role of the supervisor is becoming more demanding within the business environment. Being able to adjust to the additional demands is not always easy and often requires an individual to develop certain attributes. This module has been designed to aid in the development of those selected for a supervisory role. The candidate will gain leadership qualities, learn about the different types of leadership and acquire an understanding of development and performance.
Introduction to Communication Skills:
1) Communicating Information
This module will analyise your audience, look at ways of overcoming your fear, ensure you have good knowledge of your topic and utilising the use of aids to your advantage. It also discusses use of language, the delivery of your information and the use of different tones of voice.
2)Discussion
This area will focus on your introduction, how to lead a discussion (including preparation,planning and control) along with the associated advantages and disadvantages.
3) Effective Listening
You will understand the difference between assimilating information and summarising key information.
4) Written Communication
Sometimes it can be difficult selecting how to go about writing a communication clearly. This module will look at the use, format, structure, style and tone associated with writing clearly and definatively. It will also emphasise on the importance of accuracy and brevity, punctuation and correct use of paragraphs and grammar.
Introduction to Instructional Technique:
1) Instructional Qualities
The aim of this module is to assist you with your approach and preparation, your appearance and confidence but most importantly being enthusiastic and building a rapport with your audience. It will also look at the need for planning your subject matter and tailoring it to your audience, focus on the method of delivery and the importance of presentation duration and timings. Finally we will discuss the importance of research, methods of presentation and the importance of proof reading your presentation.
2) Delivery & Development
This section focuses on the importance of rehearsing your presentation, noting your timings, receiving constructive feedback and avoiding unnecessary feedback. It will further look at the delivery ensuring your presentation is clear and concise and avoids any jargon and abbreviations. It will stress the importance of mannerisms and the need for maintaining eye contact with your audience. The section will look at how to break down your introduction ensuring it achieves its objective. It will follow on in the development of the presentation stressing key learning points, teaching questions, visual reinforcement and further questions. This section will summarise with how to consolodate the final part of your presentation.
3) Use of Questions
You will understand how to monitor progress and maintain attention and gauge the overall level of learning.
4) Practical Skills
This module will teach you in being able to develop your practical skills by giving good introductions, briefs and practical demonstrations. It will further develop your questioning tecniques and understand the need for giving praise.
Introduction to Supervisory Skills:
1) Qualities & Attributes
The first part of this module concentrates on essential leadership qualities and attributes before examining the SWOT analysis process and action centred leadership.
2) Types of Leadership
You will learn the different types of leadership including transactional and transformational leadership and study the leadership principles.
3) Development & Performance
This module looks at the importance of personal development including training, coaching, feedback and appraisals, before progressing onto what motivates an individual and how to get the best from their performance.
Assignments:
After each module students are required to complete a short assessment
covering some of the course content.
