Tree Courses

Most children love climbing trees. Most grow out of it. Some, however, go on to make a career out of climbing trees. If fact, there are more jobs advertised for tree surgeons, more specifically tree climbers than for any other position working with trees. This makes sense as trees grow quite tall, and often the only way to get to the top is to climb, chainsaw in hand. Not surprisingly, safety is a key topic in any course on trees.

Besides Certificate courses in Arboriculture, Courses Direct has shorter offerings on an array of topics that can be useful to anyone planning a career working with trees. In Australia many tree-related jobs involve preserving and maintaining native trees and the course on Australian native trees teaches you to identify different species, how to water, propagate, maintain and transplant as well as tree selection for windbreaks and other uses. There is a separate course for each family of tree - eucalypts, acacias and grevilleas among others, so that the student can acquire specialist knowledge and an edge in the competition for jobs.

More general courses cover deciduous trees as a group or Australian native ferns, some of which can reach tree-like proportions. The courses are presented online or through correspondence, and they are activity based. For example, you may be asked to explain different grafting methods, or distinguish between pruning methods, or to determine the minimum amount of equipment that is required to set up in business as a tree surgeon.
