Fruit Courses

Our online, learn-at-your-own-pace courses are suitable for the home gardener who wishes to branch out into fruit growing, (maybe with your sights on the big prize at the next county fair), or the farmer who wishes to expand his crop options, or orchard workers who need to know more about the trees they are tending.

For the home gardener, the 100 hour course covers the fundamental element of any growing enterprise, the soil. You will learn about different types of soil and which ones are more suitable for fruit growing. You will learn about improving fertility through natural means, and you will learn about site planning and preparation. There is a lesson on the best practices for cultivating fruit, and others on tree fruits, nuts and vines, and berries.

The courses directed more towards commercial production also include activities in which you will develop a calendar for cultural management of a fruit plantation, or orchard, that is when to mow, when to water, when to prune. You will also be expected to formulate plans to market the different fruit that can be grown in your area of Australia.
